By friendship do you mean casual or deep relationship. And what is your age? All these things matter to answer correctly your query. There is nothing wrong in having friendship with the opposite sex. But the friendship should remain within bounds. The family should not be put in awkward situations because of your friendship. And both of you should be open and frank in your friendship, that is, you should not try to meet in secret places without anyone's knowledge etc. Open friendship is always encouraged by anyone.

It depends upon the tradition and culture of girls family. If she (or her family) believes blindly in keeping away from the opposite sex people till marital relation (or blood relation), it is bad. They will practice their such fundamentalistic and orthodox principles even when not in view of others and will have a fear of post mortem severe punishment. Otherwise it is just OK as no Indian law prohibits or bars such friendship, even if physical and the girl is another's wife and she cannot be punished since no offence. Her husband may seek divorce, if she has any sexual relation with another man AFTER HER MARRIAGE and cannot seek divorce if she had premarital physical relations with other boy/s. No cultures or traditions say that friendhip with opposite gender is bad. They just term the depth of relationship bad. If you are too outgiong with them they would term it bad.

Come on!! It's all ok if it's pure friendship and nothing beyond. Once it goes beyond friendship, it becomes a matter of thought for your parents. Some show their concern while some don't.
