By friendship do you mean casual or deep relationship. And what is your age? All these things matter to answer correctly your query. There is nothing wrong in having friendship with the opposite sex. But the friendship should remain within bounds. The family should not be put in awkward situations because of your friendship. It depends upon the tradition and culture of girls family. If she (or her family) believes blindly in keeping away from the opposite sex people till marital relation (or blood relation), it is bad. They will practice their such fundamentalistic and orthodox principles even when not in view of others and will have a fear of post mortem severe punishment.
