I find that learning exactly what is happening really helps fear. For a long time I was afraid of the dentist, needles, and so on, and the more raw medical and dental knowledge I got, the more I could look at "this is happening, scientifically speaking, and that's all."
I would strongly suggest talking to someone with a lot of experience going to them. If it's awkward talking to a parent, perhaps a sibling or something like that, and when you do go, simply telling the doctor that you're nervous is a great idea! Most gynecologists picked that field for a reason, and of them, most will surely understand the awkwardness of a first visit and make it as pleasant as possible for you. Perhaps they'll even explain exactly what is happening to give you a better understanding.
Fear isn't a rational emotion really, so it's a bit tough to get over exactly. My first physical in the nude was very strange for me as well, but you've just got to remember, the human body (physically, not to make them sound heartless) is no different than the frame of a house for a construction working, an engine for an auto mechanic, etc. There's not going to be perverse thoughts, judgement, or anything of the sort, it's going to be examining a part of someone for a few things and that's it.

There is always a first time for everything in life, and one has to undergo the laid out process or attempt for the first hit. The fears are sometimes constructive, and in fact, their presence indicates that the persons is grasping the subject faster than his brain can answer. In such a scenario, help must be taken from specialists. Later, it becomes a routine, and not surprisingly - May be you later feel, being Gynecologist, is a great service you would like to pursue as carrier.
**** Story: Mahatma Gandhi met Mr. Churchill for the first time on a lunch table. Gandhi chose to eat his own food, which he had brought with him (Curry made of goat milk - reared personally by him). When Gandhi offered him to taste the curry, Mr. Churchill first said "I have never tasted it before". But, Gandhi said "isn't it always a first time for everything in everyone's life", and why not this time be your "first time". Mr. Churchill could not avoid the solicitation of Gandhi and tasted it.
So consider yourself to be Churchill and let the Gynecologist act as the Gandhi. Nature prepares much sweeter and delightful curries through conscientious hands.

Everyone gets fear the first time they go to the gynecologist.. I thought I was going to die the first time I went. It's really nothing to be afraid of. You'll most likely get a very gentle understanding gynecologist. He/She will first talk to you and ask you questions. Be sure to tell them the truth on everything. Then, (I'm basically telling what mine did, but i'm sure they all do this). They will know it's your first time. Meaning, they will be extra gentle with you. They will explain everything before they do it. They will talk you through everything, and before you know it, it will be over. (My gynecologist is a big talker. He'll carry on a conversation with you through the exam to get your mind on something else besides what he's doing). Try not to get too nervous. It makes the exam more uncomfortable. Don't worry. They are just doing their job. You'll be fine.

I understand how you feel. I have had a mixed up test result too and am fearful of tests to the point where I get bad anxiety. I do have a trick that often come in handy. It is really only good for waiting for a doctor. The trick is to concentrate on something in the room and that will help eleviate some of the stress you have. I focus on ceiling tiles to get my attention from the docs. Just a shot.

realize that it's part of being an adult and something women should do if they want to remain in the best of health, and also that there have been many girls who have gotten pregnant and given birth by the time they were your age, so a routine gyn exam is a walk in the park. When you're on your way out you'll probably wonder what you were so worried about.

Think about something positive, eventhough there's nothing good about going to the gynecologist.

I promise there is nothing at the GYN to FEAR. It's quick and painless, and I think it's pretty cool to learn about what's going on with your own body. Good luck!
