it means that you did a good job of looking out for someone else's interests...or it can also be used as a phrase of gratitude for considering someone else in something.

Example:

John is going to a concert. He calls frank and says, "Hey Frank, Im going to a concert on Saturday night...would you like me to get you a ticket?" Frank says, "No thanks John, I have to work...but good looking out."

Different people interpret the line in different ways, but the most common interpretation - as well as the one I stand by - is that it was a one-time idiomatic phrase meaning "Best of luck to you and your future endeavours." It's a bit ambiguous and so you kind of have to conclude its meaning from the context, but as Rick used it as his goodbye to Ilsa, to never see her again, it can be assumed he was wishing her luck and joy (: Another interpretation is that the line was more of an elliptical toast, as in "Here's to looking at you, kid" (with "to" omitted for affect) similar to how you'd say "Here's to a happy future." The only thing we can be sure of is that, had Humphrey Bogart (actor playing Rick) said exactly what he meant to say in clear, tangible English, it would have had nowhere near as great an impact as it has - it undeniably would not have become the memorable quote it is today xD

It means someone has complimented you on covering your bases for a potential problem. Or it can also mean that you covered a buddy's back to get him out of a tight situation.

It's a phrase expressing appreciation, usually when someone does something that helped you some kind of way.
