Agreed with the previous answer - don't sit around. Hopefully they'll have someone to train you. Otherwise - look for resources (books, company intranet, etc) in the office that you can use to learn about your job.

Oh - and do everything you can to keep from getting involved in stupid office politics. Just do your job, do it to the best of your abilities...and let the rest fall where it may.

...and good luck :)

be a leader not a follower. if you just listen to what people say and just sit there doing nothing in the mean time, you will give the impression to your employer that you have no initialive and no leadership skills. also, socially, dont swear or talk about inappropriate things. see how your co-workers talk towards each other and follow there way. saying an inappropriate statement can cause them to think very different of you.
goos luck on your new job and i hope it all goes well for you!

Don't do anything to get yourself a label early on. Don't act on that need to prove yourself right away. Thats not to say, be a sheep and surrender your identity. You can be assertive and express your personality later once all eyes aren't looking to judge you. Keep your topic of conversation work related unless someone initiates a conversation unrelated to work. You want to avoid being stereotyped, and you want to give a first impression that your professional. You shouldn't have to use bigger words than your accustomed to, or wear a suit, you just have to be focused.

Hope it helps. Good luck, and congrats on the new job.

Don't talk about yourself, ask questions and get to know your new coworkers. Just don't pry. Don't complain about anything and don't think you can go in and tell them how to change everything they are doing. If you take the last of the coffee, make a new pot. Be nice and friendly. Don't run for the door at 5pm, unless you are following everyone else out. Ask intelligent questions and take notes. Do your best to remember everyone's name. Good luck, hope you love it.

oh yes, been there done that. 1 Look out the people that want to be your best friend instantly...these are People that are ready to step on toes and are feeling you out and "checking you out " to see how easy you are... beware of them..believe me..they are not your best friend. 2. keep your personal life out of the work place ..dont let anyone know your business outside the work place..e.g. discusing the fight your just had with our b-friend/g-friend. 3 Dont let anyone see you weak (see #2. becuz they can use is against you later on..4. Dont give in to office gossip..if someone is talking about why charlie got fired ....cover your ears and say to yourself "who cares" ..in other words play dumb to office gossip. 5. Dont let anyone see you sweat. Be confident and sure ...even if your not....Act and win the oscar for it. These simple rules will help you out. There are all kinds of people in offices..and its ok to form friendships with people..but remember that is not done instanlty....remember my rule # 1 Ok. You will be fine and remember to Smile and be Pleasant to the head suit and ties. Good Luck You will be fine

Don't get sauced while watching the Super Bowl?

Shower, shave, and brush your teeth when you wake up on Monday morning.

Then go into work and introduce yourself as the guy who's going to take everyone's job - "Hi, my name is Steve and I am going to take your job".

Ok, so its probably not a good idea to do the 3rd one I listed.

Don't be late.

Don't dress to impress, dress to code, and plainly, but clean.

DON"T gossip! Don't don't don't. They will even TEST you to see if you join in. Don't finger point, just don't engage.

Don't blab on about your personal life. It could be fodder for a gossiper.

Do listen and Do take notes. Better to go slow and write it down then have to ask them over and over "what was it that I do when..."

Relax, it's just a job.

Don't be late. Don't be overly anxious to be liked by others. Be friendly and be ready to work and do this as you get to know your co-workers. When you work in an office you will soon find out who is the nosey body, the kiss ***, the lazy one, the know it all, etc....
