Here's the problem:

Object is rolling on surface with minimal friction comes to rest after 198m. Initial velocity is 3.4 m/s^2. If acceleration is constant, what is the acceleration?

What is the formula that gives us acceleration if we only know distance and initial velocity? I can't even find out which one.

So, if you could tell me what formula would work at least, or even go through the problem step by step, that would help. thanks!

Thanks to the two answers I've gotten so far!

I actually got the .02919 answer already, and my professor insists it's wrong. :( I don't know what it is with this problem!

Thanks so much though!!!

ok, the answer ended up being -.02919.

Since the velocity was decreasing, the acceleration was decreasing too! whoops! Thanks all though. :)

before you use the equation v^2 = u^ + 2*a*(s-s0).
you have to state the assumption first. because the object is rolling!! remember the question? the object is translating and rolling at the same time!!

because the friction is minimal, we have to assume the object is under "rolling without slipping condition". after assuming this condition, we can carry on with the linear motion equation stated.

Hi! Here's a little help:

v^2=v'^2+2a(x-x')

(x' and v' meaning initial positin and velocity respectively)

So by substituting the values you have, you get

0=3.4^2+2a(198-0)

Solving for a

a=-11.56/396

a=-.02919 m/s^2

That's it, you have it ;)

Now it truly relies upon on what variety of kinky action you've planned and if it is your authentic image. i might want to favor to no longer be rolled up in case you've been 500 pounds and searching to eat me like a burrito

if acceleration is constant, that means acceleration is zero..
