It depends on if the actor is smart about what role they take next. The dumbest move is to do an action movie (Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux, Halle Berry in Catwoman, for example). The smartest thing is to take a role in a small but good film with a great director and great cast (like Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby) But I think the key is understanding that an Oscar doesn't MAKE a career. Some actors have done their best work AFTER winning the Oscar (Gwyneth Paltrow in Sylvia and Proof, Denzel Washington post-Glory). If you notice, the ones who don't sit on their laurels after they win (Whoopi Goldberg post- Ghost) are usually the ones who have great careers after their Oscar wins.

Say an actor makes 3 million bucks per film. He gets nominated for the Oscar and does NOT win. His asking price for his next movie will go up to about 5 million, just for being nominated. Now, say he actually WINS. Now, his asking price can go anywhere from 7 to 10 million for his next picture. And that's just the monetary benifit. Now the actor will have the clout to have things his way a bit more in the contract he signs for his next movie, such as profit share. He has a better chance at getting script approval now. Plus, he doesn't have to settle for that quick 300,000 dollar job in that B movie, he can hold out for the Big Boys who will gladly pay this Oscar winner the millions he now commands. He's also gonna be on every talk show and in every magazine now, getting publicity out-the-hooha and becoming more popular and familar with the public. :-)

nicely, you could desire to endure in techniques, prevailing an Oscar is an actor being known by employing an Academy of their friends. The Academy is made out of of persons in the action picture industry, administrators, manufacturers, Technical people and finally Actors. many instances poeple in the action picture industry will see an outstanding overall performance the place the final public sees a run of the mill or understated overall performance. in simple terms like maximum action picture critics are keen on paintings abode and self sufficient action pictures, a brilliant style of actors and picture industry persons are as nicely. And if we've found out something from analyzing maximum critics comments and seeing the statue winners on Oscar nighttime, they do no longer inevitably talk for the comments of the mass public. working example, Adrien Brody gained suitable actor for the action picture The Pianist, which became right into a brilliant overall performance. however the pianist did no longer make a brilliant volume of money, and did no longer get extremely some popularity in the media, so people have been ignorant of it, and by employing association ignorant of Brody. yet then verify out a huge call like Jim Carrey. he's in no way gained an oscar, and that i do no longer think of he's ever even been nominated, yet each and every action picture he places out will continuously gross over $2 hundred Million simply by fact people go with to be certain him on exhibit, and thanks to that, he lands huge place after huge place. So that's all approximately having container workplace clout and a powerful exhibit prescence. If an actor does not have the two, they are going to bypass by employing the wayside.

If it were, then you'd have to wonder about 2-time or 3-time Oscar winners--does this mean these actors are especially unlucky to get cursed multiple times, or that they are especially capable, that they can win this award even after becoming cursed?

The Oscars are a big pile of bullsh%t. The people who win half the time do not deserve it but people hop in the bandwagon and agree because no one takes risks and watches the daring movies with the real actors in them. The say Jennifer Hudson is so great in Dreamgirls, but what about Cate Blanchett in Notes on a Scandal?? Oh yeah never heard of it right??
Oscars go with the popularity contest so I do not care if it curses
The big hollywood secret is that the voters do not even watch more than 2 minutes if any of the movie

They don't seem to think it is. Are you meaning that their career goes downhill after they win? I guess it depends on the actor. They have a choice in the roles they choose to play in, so if they pick roles just for the money then I guess it can be a curse but if they choose roles that mean something & have integrity then, it really doesn't matter how many awards they win. They still come out ahead.

Oscar awardees would not agree with this, I would think. An Oscar gives someone instant status on top of the acclaim and $$$$. It tells the world that said actor/actress has "arrived." It is also a challenge for that awardee to work harder to keep up with himself/herself and the next contingent of contenders.

in all it's a blessing to the actors to receive one in a life time. It really is a good thing it's not a curse at all.
