Which ride/which park? Favorite part of the ride?
Me, I love doing it on The Boss at Six Flags St. Louis. I just pull my knees up close as possible while still having my feet on the floor of the roller coaster car. The safety guys push it down, and pay no mind to it. Then once the station brakes are disengaged and the train coaster departs I relax and try not to hold on. This is the most fun at the very back because of the whip effect negative G's (it's only going 5 mph when the front starts down the drop but by the time the back gets there it is already over 30 mph and it feels like a bucking bull that did a front flip.

to the second person you will not fall out if its just 2 clicks loose, it just enhances air time. the bar would have to be at least 10 clicks loose to have any miniscule chance of falling out.

Additionally, 2 clicks is about 2 inches, just enough to feel "suspended" by the bar, but not nearly enough to get thrown out.. Come on, it was built recently in 2000, they figured in the thrill-seekers when designing the lap bars so it would have to be rediculously loose to fall out. BTW: any1 who saw Final Destination 3 would not want the safety guys jammin the bar down anyway.

to Krista B: its 2 clicks that i leave, but at the bottom of the initial drop, where it pulls over 3-4 G's downward the bar usually clicks down one more click. As you might have misread my confusingly stated details (its 2AM when they were posted) it is not 2 clicks down from its resting position, it is 2 clicks up from the lowest position that it would fit.

Riding with the safety restraints loose is dangerous, most especially on high speed rollercoasters that make loops and corkscrews. Several years back I rode the Medusa in Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, CA, the seat that I was to ride on had a loose safety restraint. The person was only able to secure me with the restraint half way locked and said dont worry about. Well why dont worry about it when the restraint is moving more than two inches! Throughout the ride my but came off the seat a few times on the loops and corkscrews and my restraint finally became fully locked at the end of the ride. I definitely don't ride this roller coaster anymore due to the lack of safety this park takes into consideration.

If you're going to keep your lap bar THAT loose, you need to hang on to something. If you don't want to hang on to anything, then you need to let the attendant push it down a few more clicks. I don't see anything wrong with leaving it a click or two away from your body, and based on the information in your post, I'm assuming you are not close to being overweight where one or two clicks down is leaving just enough room for you.

It may be fun, but you're compromising your safety. Period. People who do things like this are the reason lap bars and shoulder restraints get shoved down into people's bodies these days--people who tried to sabotage the system in place and lost. If you want your thrills without the worries of a restraint, go skydiving. Parks have other things to worry about--like what cool coaster or ride they want to put in next--rather than having to go through the difficulty of explaining how and why and accident happened, then most likely dealing with litigation from you or your surviving family that could potentially take money away from putting in something new for people who really do follow the rules.

While you may feel that it is safe to ride a roller coaster with one or two clicks, it is not. I do not care how much more of a negative-g sensation you get with a loose restraint. Restraints are there for a reason and you should use them properly or you will pay the consequences one day. Best case scenario: you could get kicked out of the park. Worst case scenario: You can and will fall out and die. The chances of being ejected are much higher than what you believe.

Riding a coaster with a lap bar too loose = Unsmart

Follow the rules. An amusement park is not a good place to perform daredevil stunts.

Do you realize children are reading what you wrote, you may get a rush out of it, don't put ideas into kids minds. sorry if I sound like a bore, just imagine a child half your size and trying this out next time they are at an amusement park.
