Insulate bathrub area?

Question

When tiling a bathrub area, my studs are exosed. Do I insulate, put felt paper and than cemenet board? Or just felt paper and cement board(Durock)

Insulation will do two things: 1. Keep heat in and 2. Keep noise from traveling through the wall.

I would insulate, provide a water/vapor barrier (such as 9 mil sheet plastic) and then use Hardibacker which is water impervious rather than cement board which can be porous and may allow moisture to penetrate. When you install the hardibacker be sure to tape the joints and seal them using thinset.
