I think it's the tendancy for some people to look down on others in order to feel superior. There are so few groups that they can look down on though, because looking down on most others is now unacceptable. They can't look down on gays, women or minorities and all those jokes are verboten. But they desperately need someone to look down on, and smokers are unprotected. It's funny that when there's a need for cash to fund health insurance for the uninsured, they turn to tobacco (as in PA). How do you spell h-y-p-o-c-r-a-s-y?

Honestly, I don't think they know how rude they're being.......reason I know is because I used to be a non-smoker myself. I used to constantly mention it to my father when I was a kid, so much so that it was annoying....but I didn't really know it at the time. I became a smoker myself at 18 and since then have had a few people here and there do the same to me......unless you've been in both shoes a non-smoker will never understand how nagging it is.....you want to say to them, okay...I'm not perfect, are you? you sort of wish they were tantalized for being overweight or having some other crutch that they never get harrassed about. So anyways, it's just ignorance and I mean that in a polite way.

Notice,(believe it or not)...That the EX smokers are most often the WORST complainers! They are the hypocrites. Some will go so far to say how stupid they were when they smoked for years and years! Their the ones who give that dirty look to smokers and say we are ignorant. I say " I hope someday I will be as intelligent as you are and quit." Ex smokers are like formerly overweight people who had a gastric bypass surgery, that sees an overweight individual eating a big mac in mc donalds, and is disgusted at that persons "size" VANITY! Thats what I say to the self righteous Ex smokers/overweight

I don't think they are all rude. I am a smoker (I will be quitting on Monday) and I have always hated the smell of smoke. They are free to feel the way they do, just as I am free to light one up.

Most aren't rude...they just care about the health of smokers. (And you know, some smokers are rude when they blow smoke in people's faces.)
But, not all smokers do that. I'm not against the smoker, I'm against the smoking.

Because maybe they hate the smell of cigerrates. But they dont have to be rude if someone is a smoker...unless their blowing it in your face. It just shows how immature they are.

I have become a non-smoker, as of the past year. If I have been rude, then I apologize.

Actually if you really look at who is rude, your going to find its the ex smokers that are the worst. Its all media hype though, i know this cause you used to be able to smoke on airplanes, in hospitals, yess and even in restaurants, and nobody ever bitched

Even as a smoker...I can't say I blame them. We choose to smoke....they didn't and since it does stink and make peoples eyes water and make people cough and wheeze and since we all know it can cause cancer and ephezema, I have always felt that even though I have the right to choose to smoke I don't have the right to make everyone else smell bad and cough if they don't want to. Its my bad habit...if I want to continue my bad habit then I can stand to be a little inconvenienced by having to smoke outside instead of inside or not smoking at all for an hour or 2.
