I know this is a little dated by internet standards(5 days) but are the comments posted on can Barack Obama become President really the best we have to offer? First of all the man is not a Muslum, he was born in Hawaii, he's not even 100% black, his father was Nigerian his mother Hawian. I mean really I have come to expect more from the cyberspace community, I mean really potshots at his lineage and his religion, (most of which were wrong in their facts). My question is did I miss some of the more thoughtful answers or is it really true that any IDIOT can run a computer these days?????????

Unfortunately, it apppears any idiot can indeed run a computer. But you'd best prepare yourself for a lot more of this sort of thing--especially if Obama starts making a strong showing in the primaries. That is going to punch every white racists button like notheing else could!

And ugly as that will be, maybe it will be for the best. I think most decent Americans (liberal or conservative; this has nothing to do with that) want to think racism is dead or dying. I wish it were--but as a social scientist I know better. Maybe we need our noses rubbed in the nasty truth that it is still very much with us.

PS--Obama's father was from Kenya. :)

Didn't see that prior post, but here's what I think about Obama:

He hasn't been in the senate that long, nor does he have the tainted past of Hillary (8 years as first lady - working on projects for Bill - which failed (Universal Health Care)). Because at this point he is not an entrenched long-term career politician - might work in his favor as we the voters don't know if we can trust him or not. He hasn't been in Washington long enough to be corrupted?

Flip side of my last statement - is to question his experience. He does have little experience with national politics, not to mention international. Also, we do have a war going on right now. Perhaps we need a Commander in Chief with a military mind - that rules out both Obama and Hillary - the supposed front runners.

White/African American or other Minority, Male/Female, I personally don't care. I want to see a candidate who reflects my views on all the major issues that pop up during the campaign. I urge everyone to watch the debates, listen to as many speeches from as many candidates as possible and base your vote that way. Try to see through the fine lines of their rhetoric and ask yourself - is his/her plan really workable? Hillary for example has a great idea for universal health care - but how is she going to implement it - can we afford it - will it mean a substantial rise in taxes - what are the limitations (does it take away options currently available to private health plan owners)? Don't elect another John Kerry or George Bush, both of whom took the front seat of their respective parties by relying on popularity and charisma.

As to your final question - pretty much any computer running Window's 95 and above practically operate themselves!

Well.... remember that everything always seems loyal, sincere, perfect and intelligent AT the beginning. Everything looks perfect at the beginning. After he got elected... he would remove his mask and show the 'real' beast inside him..... as everybody did before.
I think Hillary C would be not that bad even she is not the perfect one but considerably appropriate for that position.... I simply don't understand why people are so shallow and narrow and not able to see the real things beyond the border, beneath the surface. Why people are so superficial, only get impressed and amazed by someone's charm, loyalty, sincerity and intelligence only without looking what's behind 'his' curtain. Who is he? He just popped up to the surface in a sudden movement without ever being heard or known well before. AND suprisingly most Americans will vote for him. This phenomena is truly amazing. Americans will vote for something that are new and charming even they really don't know anything about him. They will vote blindly for Obama which definitely has a strong and firm Muslim background as his primal way of thinking and solving problems for everything.... without really really knowing the 'beast' within...... His background is Islam. His basic foundation is Islam. I am not degrading Islam as religion, not at all. Maybe this is the best way to make America become a biggest Muslim country. Then if so, so be it.

Always like this.... Also already happened many times in Bush periods. When Americans would be able to see things in a profound and thoughtful way? Americans always not being able to see things beneath the surface. I could do the same, all I have to do to win Americans' sympathy is just simply be nice, loyal, sincere and kind to everybody then you'll be accepted no matter what is inside my heart if I plan to shatter the reputation of USA worse after I got elected. :)

Obama to be honest I have to say that he seems so phony and fake.... He even has such a huge huge lack of experiences in politics. His loyalty, sincerity, and intelligence seem so superficial and made up only for making him win the election. Not true his inner loyalty, sincerity, and intelligence shine out from him. But he made it up like a wolf in a sheep clothing. Be aware of this tricky mischievous way to get something. Do not get impressed and amazed by someone's loyalty, sincerity, perfection and intelligence in the beginning especially when he wants to achieve something. Of course he shows all his bests in the beginning to win his ambitions. But after, would he stay and remain the same kind, loyal, sincere and intelligent as he promotes himself by now? I doubt it.... Be very careful.

To trash someone they know nothing about is obviously a reaction to their fear that he can win. Plenty of time for him to show up all the other candidates and he will. Just a matter of time, and all the republican lies being spit is just a mirror image of the fear they have inside. Anyone to believe something without doing their own research is a sheep.

No comment on the last question, it would get me reported. I'm torn between Obama and Giuliani. If you go to snopes.com it will tell you all the little lies that they are saying about Obama.

Barack Obama is a teen crush (he ain't my teen crush).

They don't last.

Nuff said.

Its gonna be Hillary vs. Guiliani.

She will pick a lefty vice to give her lib creds.

He will pick a social conservative vice to give him moral creds.

Any guess who I'm gonna vote for?

(Hint - if you are astute in policy issues, especially foreign policy, and aren't swayed by emotion or dogma, we will probably be voting for the same ticket).

People neglect the truth much of their lives but that does not mean they are not web savvy.
