It all depends on the college, the professor, the field of study, etc. Certain professors simply assign a chapter or other reading material and then repeat the same thing in class. Though I don't recommend missing any classes, you shouldn't worry too much if you do miss these.
Some professors are extremely helpful in class, they review the material, answer questions you may have, and give you advice on how to do well in the course.
From my personal experience, going to class is probably the most important part of college (though many may disagree). You simply learn more--and better--when the material is repeated several times and you have a chance to review it over and over.

You should definitely go if you don't have something more beneficial to do. By this, I mean a job or activity where you can better yourself, not laying in bed because of a hangover.
Personally I don't think it's a big deal to skip if you can still pass the class. My last two semesters of college, I attended only the classes with mandatory attendance, or random quizzes. The other classes, I attended when there was a test or assignment due. This allowed me to work many more hours and spend a lot of time job hunting for when I graduated. I was glad I did this when I graduated and walked straight into a very good job that I had been working on for 4 months.
Many college classes can be passed by teaching yourself using the syllabus, textbook and other resources (online, library etc.) I even passed a 400 level statistics course, with an A average, doing this. It can be done, it just requires a little work and you must be fairly intelligent. Usually much less time is spent doing this than the time spent in class but it is work none the less.

Going to classes is important because no mater what your major or field of study. For various reasons: in classes with labs or discussion sections it is important to attend lecture to get directions. In classes that don't have labs or discussion sections (English, arts, etc.) it is important to get to know the prof. because this will help your grade.

Show up for class, take great notes, and actually pay attention. You'll retain the information and it will be easier for you to study for exams which in turn give you better grades which in turn helps you to get into the program of your choice which in turn helps you get a degree of your choice which in turn helps you make the money you want to make... hope this helps. Go to class!

To learn the material better, to get a better understanding of the material your learning, take tests, and pass the tests. Thats what college is for.

Gee...its entirely important... if its not important you would fail to graduate. if you fail to graduate you will fail to get a degree. but it really depends on what really is your goal in life. you see, there are persons who want to be successful, as for me I strongly believe that acquiring a college education would lead me to the goals and dreams I intently want and determined to achieve
