If you are required to read something for school that is classic literature I would suggest The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. This is a story filled with mystery suspense and intrigue. There is a slight romance in the story but the story's theme is really revenge and justice. Some other books that are almost impossible to put down are Frankenstien By mary shelley, the Ender series by orson scott card (the first book is called ender's game), The postman (can't remember the author's name), the lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit by Tolkien, the out of the silent planet series by C.S. Lewis, Angels and Demons By Dan Brown, and 1984 by George orwell. Brave New World is also great but I can't remember the author. Good luck and I hope that is a help :)

A good resource to go to is fantastic fiction website. You can read through lots of favorite fiction authors. I just finished reading what I thought was a good DaVinci code type of book it is called The Double Eagle by James Twining. A really remarkable book (to me, at least) and my all time fav is "Shibumi" by Trevanian. I guess I should say that I like books that teach and have interesting facts like Robin Cooks books. He is a doctor in real life so he writes from fact and makes it fiction like the book (made movie) "Coma". Anyway...gotta add!!! The book "Boys from Brazil" (about Hitler clones) and my weird favorite "The Search for Josef Tully" (sorry can't remember that author right now). Anyway! Hope this helps and happy reading!

I just finished "Thirteen Moons" by Charles Frazier. I had read his first novel, "Cold Mountain" and had truly loved it. I had read some lukewarm reviews of "Thirteen Moons" but I got caught up in the sweep of the story and the beauty of the writing. At the end, I felt I was there with the protagonist and he was relating his life story. Sort of like Thomas Berger's "Little Big Man", with an old man talking about his youth. Bittersweet but not depressing at all. Uplifting, I think.

You need to read Poison Study by Maria V Snyder. This book is fantastic.....
Through a stroke of luck, Yelena escapes execution in exchange for tasting the food of the Commander, ruler of Ixia. Though confined to a dank prison cell and doomed to a painful death, Yelena slowly blooms again, caught up in castle politics. But some people are too impatient to wait for poison to finish off Yelena. With the help of Valek, her steely-nerved, cool-eyed boss and the Commander's head of security, she soon discovers that she has a starring role to play in Ixia's future — a role that could lead to her being put to death as a budding magician even if she hits each cue perfectly.
About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She'll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace--and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of ixia. And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly Dust--and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay the agonizing death from the poison. As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear...
This one will keep you up all night

Try Animorphs series, or Eragon, how about Wheel of Time or Lord of the Rings Books? The Animorphs may be a little harder to find and possibly out of intrest, but it is merely a suggestion. 1984, Animal Farm, or Brave New World would also be good choices.

If fantasy is your pleasure, you should read Stephen R. Donaldson's "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant." Donaldson wrote six novels (two trilogies), then continued with the story even further, until he stopped at some point for some unearthly reason...but, getting to the current book is a great pleasure.

Confederacy of Dunces. It's an oldy but has great characters. (probably my all time favorite).
For action / mystery try checking out the Lee Childs books. We have been tearing through those here.
