I've been going to the doctors for the last 4 months for anxiety attacks and have been on Effexor and Ativan. My teacher who is my friend is very worried about me becuase im so easily put in tears or close too, my sleeping and eating habits have been off and i've become very anxious. She made me book an appointment at the doctors and wants to go with me becuase 1) my family doesnt know i'm on them and 2) shes afraid im not telling the doctor 100% of what im experiancing. Would you let her come with you?? Wouldnt the doctor shrugg her shoulders at me ?? Please your opinion helps

If she really cares about you and wants to help you and make sure you okay, then yes I would say let her go with you. It could make you feel more comfortable that way. Your doctor won't, or shouldnt, say anything about it. :)

If you are over 18 this is at your decretion but keep in mind that while friends supporting you is helpful, the time has to come when you can stand on your own too, you decide when. I think at your age it is normal not to feel the need to involve family, just hang on to any real support system you have and don't give up on family yet. There is a time that the process of growing up may involve being temporarily on your own in order to retain the right to make your own decisions. The doctor should respect your wishes if it helps you deal with your particular situation. They are getting paid to care for you and help you get better. ronniea

I am a healthcare provider and I would say that your healthcare provider would not 'shrug thier shoulders' at anything (or they shouldn't....and it should not be a concern to you...if they do that, you need a new healthcare provider). It's up to you if you want your friend in attendance at your visit. With problems like depression, support in very valuable. If Effexor is not working for you at 4 months...you may need the dose increased...or changed to a different medication...you sound as if your depression is not controlled well enough. I see your teachers concern.

Listen!!! Most people ask for advice but do not want to take it. You must make sure you are treated by the right doctor. Xanix is not a drug for you to take every day. My son almost killed himself and my best friends husbands death was caused by Xanix. Find a psychiatrist. Psychiatrist's only deal with meds. They used to work with mental aspects but other professionals do that and the psychiatrists specialize in treating chemical imbalances. Do not let your family doctor treat you. Please. Your mental health clinics will help you to find a doctor who can get you back on your feet. You may have to search and search for a psychiatrist who can meet your needs. Just do not get hooked on drugs.

For you, it is nice she wants to accompany you ... she cares.

For her, she's crazy. She could lose her teaching license if you suffer any consequences and your family blames her for intervening. There is a professional teacher/student line that must not be crossed. You may be 18, but as long as you are a student in her class, I'd say it's not a good idea ...

I would let her go with you.....But i would suggest that the two of you go see your patents....and bring this into the open...as it could have very bad implications for your teacher ''who suppose to know better'' by not letting your family into the matter...
In support of you and your well being...its great of her to be by your side...but pls let your folks in on this....Good Luck

I someone is worried about you obviously there is a reason-- maybe your not letting the dc know everything --but thats not your fault--just let her go, it will help- if the dc seems to not like the situation-- hes probly not a good dc.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW OLD YOU ARE BUT IF YOU ARE A TEEN AND YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR PARENT GOING AND YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH YOU TEACHER THEN I FEEL IT IS BETTER THAN YOU GOING BY YOURSELF MAYBE SHE/HE WOULD KNOW THE QUESTIONS TO ASK THE DOCTOR AS TO HOW LONG YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL THIS WAY IS THE MEDS. THE CORRECT ONES AND WHAT TO EXPECT AS FAR AS HOW LONG TREATMENT WILL BE REQUIRED
