Dude I know more about cars than a lot of men. My experience comes from all the time having cars broke down and repair bills.

News flash!!!! I am a woman....I know how and have changed oil, plugs, and tires on my car. I also know how to adjust the timing, check for cracked distributor and so forth. No I am not a mechanic and could not rebuild a motor but I also know a lot of men that know less about an automobile than I do. It makes no difference if you are male or female...you only get the hang of things if you are interested in them. I would not suggest spending a lot of time discussing the workings of an automobile on a date. It would be like her discussing the different kinds of manicures she gets. You would probably not be interested.

When I am at work, I have a very large "tackle" box filled with drugs to resuscitate you in the event you go into cardiac arrest or have some other life threatening emergency. It is my responsibility to know the indications, dosages and side effects for every single med in the box. In addition to that, I have a cardiac monitor with defibrillator attached and a mechanical ventilator in the event I have intubated you after you've gone into respiratory or full cardiac arrest....Now, if I can handle all of that, I am quite sure I can handle the "inner workings" of a car. Bring it on.

Is it really worth it to try to use a 'big' word with the response to this question?
Well, let me make this simple ... NOT ONLY are females quite CAPABLE of understanding Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, Hydraulics, Calculus (and so much more!), but we also are the ones who are SERVING in the Armed Forces, Designing the next product you will use, writing our own Websites/Code, and yes, Retiring with PENSIONS from Non-Traditional Career Fields.

Well it depends if she is interested in it or not. For instance I know how to change my oil a flat tire fill the radiator change the sparkplugs fill the washer fluid put a new serpentien belt on in fact depending on the year of the car and with a manual I can even rebuild the engien but my dad and my husband and my uncles are all mechanics among other things.

Jason, I grew up when a car could be worked on. I busted piston rings off, honed cylinders and various other things, bled brakes, changed oil and learned how to adjust rocker arms/lifters so it is a matter of what a girl wants to know not what she can learn.
I also drove an 18 wheeler which you had to know about the workings of the air brake system and lots of detailed workings of the machine.

It depends upon the female! If you really feel the need to talk to your dates about carburetors, date a mechanic or a race car enthusiast! And, stop being so old-fashioned and sexist. Plenty of guys don't know the FIRST thing about cars and don't care to know!

To some yes, however many that I have met, the info would go through one ear and out the other. Many that I have met have surprised me that they have come this far in education. Then there are the know it alls, then there are those that actually listen to what is being said and learn.
