"We're not going to let this go without looking at the further roots of how this happened to cause the panic in this city,"
This is a quote from the attorney general in reference to the "planted devices" scare.
It would seem to me that if all the "lawmen" weren't so busy trying to justify their excessive vigilance (and excessive bugets), treating every unattended Light-Bright as a bomb and potential terrorist plot we wouldn't have been scared in the first place.
Now, don't get me wrong an ounce of genuine prevention is one thing but haven't things gone a little too far?? Hasn't it gone far beyond justifiable defence to the realm of absolute control??

what's next outlawing personal electronics? Do we have to treat EVERY unaccounted for person or object as dangerous?
Do you think that by doing so we are creating our own terror? And giving the "terrorists" the real control they wanted all along?
Only IQs over 80 respond.

It sounds to me as if the panic reaction was a fluke. These devices had been "planted" in other cities without incident. I imagine that it just happened that somebody who found one thought it was suspicious, called the police, and so it went.
Maybe when somebody places devices like this they should notify the police, but that does seem kind of cumbersome.
This reminds me of an incident I witnessed in Santa Monica some years ago, long before 9/11.
A briefcase had been found on top of a mailbox next to a bus stop. Police were notified, 2 helicopters circled above, the street was barricaded, buses were rerouted, a large truckload of gravel was brought in, and they blew up the briefcase. It turned out not to contain a bomb, so an hour or two after the detonation, things were back to normal.
Personally, if I had found a briefcase on top of a mailbox next to a bus stop, I would have thought somebody forgot it. I would have opened it to see whether I could find ID to return it to the owner.

Ok,
People of Boston, and the news media in general, yes all of you! Get a grip on reality! Light-Brights as a bomb? I spent over a year in Iraq and Kuwait seeing what IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices) look like, and you guys have got to be kidding me. Every single person who called this in, and for every reporter covering the BOMB scare, should be beaten with large blunt objects. Is this the United States 2007, or something out of George Orwell's mind coming true? Does everyone know that these advertisements for the new upcoming movie have been out for awhile? Why now call it a bomb? My thought about the intelligence level of the common person in Boston before: 5 to 6 out of 10, now maybe a 2 out of 10. ....Morons.

What's stupid about this whole thing is the attitude of those who are giving the appearance of securing us. They display the same inefficiency that airport security does when they strip search the 80 year old grandma in a wheelchair.

We simply don't have the resources to turn over every rock in the world to check for bombs. "Leadership" has failed us again.

to many human beings get lulled right into a pretend sense of risk-free practices, and then while it occurs they over react. i think of the police and risk-free practices do the ultimate they are able to yet its time electorate take merely a dash the accountability for their very own risk-free practices. im not saying supply up residing your existence or carry weapons yet be slightly greater conscious of your atmosphere at experience which could be mushy objectives. identification guess you any quantity of money you have seen those knuckleheads you may walk authentic as much as with a bomb and say "right here could you carry this whilst i see if my cellular telephone works" and that that they had be like oh ok. this would possibly never end yet you're authentic we can't stay in consistent worry. yet instead of being in a trance walking around questioning approximately Kim ok's romantic existence possibly somebody could think of "ask your self why that guy has to important back packs with rigidity cookers in them?"

I asked this question and it got deleted... because it offended someone... maybe they one person who thought they actually looked like bombs... whatever these YA boards are rediculous

I will say this it makes me laugh when the aattorney general uses words like "planted with fear and unrest" in mind... does that mean me installing a car stereo is with hopes of "fear and unrest" even a 5 year old could tell these were not a bomb... and to keep calling this thing a "deliberate hoax" is laughable. IT WAS ELECTRONIC SIGNS. sigh... and we vote for these people

What's to stop a real wacko from planting some real bombs disguised as these hoax ones? I know that right now, I'm angry as hell at Turner for it, and concerend for my kids. What is a hoax for the eggheads at Turner might just spur a lunatic to use it as cover for his own terroristic ideas.

It is rediculous. our society is scared to live and scared of everything. GET OVER IT. If you worry, you are not LIVING. Life is pointless when you remain scared and stay controlled by your own government. Be proactive, learn to defend yourselves, and don't be scared of what faces you. You only live once, and being scared of an advertisement or college prank, you are a moron. I have to get out of this country before breathing is a crime.

What better way to place a bomb then in a familiar item!

Think about it......bombs do not look like the stereo type bombs in old moves, TV or cartoons.

I know...retired alive Police SWAT and Bomb disposal.

If the Police didn't react in the same like manner and one was a real bomb.......what would you be saying now?
