I am reading Huck Finn and the following question is on my analysis sheet:

Why do you think Tom referred to Louis XVI while planning Jim's escape?

Louis XVI, king of France at the time of the French Revolution, was arrested, tried for treason and executed on the guillotine in 1793. Tom's reference implies that if he and Huck had been there, they would have engineered the perfect escape for the king and the execution would never have happened.
