My husband and i live near an underwater tunnel and have different beliefs as to why you can't blow your horn in the tunnel. I wanted to see who is correct.

hmmm I would say maybe something similar as to why your not supposed to yell or make loud noises on a mountain for fear of an avalanche...maybe the vibrations from the loudness of the horn could cause a crack or something in the tunnel walls...I'm sooooo guessing and it may sound stupid sorry:)

I'm pretty sure it would be legally permissible if you were actually sounding a warning to another driver or a pedestrian, but horns are a nuisance in tunnels because the confined space makes them sound so much louder. We have a few underpasses with signs that say Do not sound horn. Have you tried it? It's a great way to disturb residents and to hear how your horn sounds. (just kidding, please don't)

Maybe because of the noise factor, plus it would echo so that other drivers couldn't tell which car it was coming from, anyway...?
