I know lighter fluid will do the trick, but since I don't smoke... what is the next best thing to remove this mess? It's all over a glass door of a display cabinet.

I also vote for 'goo-gone' or 'goof-off'. These adhesive removers will take care of it in no time and the goo-gone has a citrusy smell to it so you don't have to worry about a harsh chemical filling the room.
They are also useful for a multitude of other things around the house (e.g. gum in carpet, stickers on furniture) so it won't be a waste buying a bottle.

Get some goo gone and let it soak for a little before scraping off WD40 should also work as will other cleaners that are designed for removing tape and sap residue. You might want to try some mineral spirits if you have it around. For less dried on tape alcohol will often work.

Single edge razor. The reference to lighter fluid isn't for smokers, but the stuff you use to light charcoal. It works extremely well. A little goes a long way and if you use it, be careful what you do with the rag. Spontaneous combustion really does happen.

Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Use a cotton ball to remove it. Works pretty quickly and you should have one or both of those in your house. Good Luck! :)

you can remove masking tape residue off from any surface by using new masking tape. stick the new masking tape from the surface of the affected surface and peel off. do it repeatedly until all the residue is remove.

Try a little bit of oil (veggie or olive) and rub it onto the spot with a soft cloth.

Spray it with windex and let it sit for about 30 seconds, then wipe it off. I use it all the time to remove stickers on books.

Buy some stuff called "Goo Gone", that is used for sticky situations, ha ha... like gum, stickers, and so forth. Good luck

If the Windex and waiting for while does not work (which is what I do a lot also) try rubbing alcohol. I should work.

adhesive remover (available at Walmart or Home Depot) will take off with very little effort.
