Has anyone been to Little Italy in San Diego? What's there to do in LIttle Italy and exactly how big is it (no smart remarks about the title refereing to the size!)?

Little Italy is an approximate 10-15 block area about a mile North of downtown San Diego. There are quite a few (7-8) excellent Italian and Pizza type restaurants and other very good eating places there. A very easy 1/4 mile walk from the nearby Trolley and about a 1/2 mile to the Harbor Drive and the cruise ship docking locations. One of the best Italian places I've eaten at in Little Italy is Guisippi's Pizza Grotto.

Why little Italy? There are some fountains, yet there are not quite any intersting landmarks. i could bypass with Balboa Park quite. Like in front of the fish pond with the Botanical backyard in the some distance historic past...that's a uniquely San Diego photograph op.

It's pretty small - just a few blocks of commercial stuff. A nice place to live (some new condos in the area), or worth a stop for lunch if you're nearby, but really not enough there to make it worth going out of your way to visit. Gaslamp district downtown is more interesting.

It is not very big - probably about a couple dozen blocks or so. There are some art galleries, markets, restaurants, and a few specialty stores. It is fun area to walk around and eat.
