Good gracious! Do you know what kind of snake it is? Why do you need to call the zoo? Maybe you could call the police department and ask if there is an emergency animal control person on duty.

Where ever you are-- there are people who work in animal control that are responsible for the handling of any species that are out of place within the public !! Call them and see to it that they do their job--- if this is a dangerous type of snake--- this could be a very costly thing to leave unattended until someone just saunders over to your place to have a look-see !!
In the home that I lived in before coming to my present residence--- we would get snakes close in to the home quite often--- and twice within the home within a twelve year stretch !!
The house sat at the edge of dense rural territory which was an invite to them, evidently--- and -- these were very deadly indeed-- rattlesnakes and cottonmouths --- not your most desirable roommates !!

There are companies that remove wild animals. They probably do services calls 24/7. It won't hurt to check. If you know which room it is in, close that room off by putting towels under/next to the doors. Weight the towels down with something so the snake cant get through them. Leave the snake alone, it is probably just as scared of you as you are scared of it. Good luck!

where are you?
how close is the zoo?
It may be an attempt to get that $7 million you just won at the lottery. Snakes are like that.

Put on some thick boots and gloves, then chase it into a sack with a broom or other long pole. If you are going to pick it up grab it right behind the head so it can't bite you but I would not do that because you might mess up and then it would bite you for sure and you could get poisoned.

What kind of snake? If you're in South Africa with a black mamba in the bedroom, I'd make a hasty exit. If you're in the US with a chicken snake in the kitchen, it makes more sense to ignore it and go to bed.
