My son was born at the normal weight of 8 lbs. 5 oz. (22.5 inches long) and began to grow rapidly. He gained 4 pounds in the first month and at 10 months old weighed 35 lbs. !! He is wearing 3T sleepers (can't wear anything else reall because his waste is so big and he's a chunky boy)... he is almost exclusively breastfed, only taking ocassional solids here and there (he's not really interested yet)... so he's NOT overfed.

The doctor says he's healthy (he does not have giantism or a thyroid problem like some people hypothesize when finding out how old he really is!)... the doc says he's just a BIG boy. WAY off the charts in both weight AND length.

I was curious if anyone else has every experienced this. Did their child stay large (taller and thicker than the other kids their age) or did they slow down and level out?? Just curious. His Daddy is 6'5" but was a bean-pole until recently. And his Mom says he was not nearly as big as our son (even though he was born at 10 lbs)

*lol* Your baby and my baby aren't big (20lbs at 4 months, 26 lbs at 8. Somewhere around 30 at almost 11 months) the other babies are TOO SMALL! ;-)

Maybe formula is still very inadequate? I mean my cousins baby was formula fed and she was SOOO fat they had to use q-tips to clean in her rolls, but she didn't stretch up. She is three and weighs the same as my son.

I guess we will see. Mines been walking for awhile, see your other question. And people keep insisting he will thin out, however there experience is likely based on babies who are given cow's milk at 1 year instead of breastmilk or even formula. Cow's milk is for cows, so he may keep on growing the way he is. "They" said breastfed babies grow fast the first 3 months, then they said he would slow down after 6. Now they say because he is walking. Meh he is the perfect size for HIM!

Both my babies were big. Son was 8 lbs 10 oz 22 in long. Daughter was 8 lbs. 3 oz. 23 in long. However, they were very long and lean, not chunky. I did not breast feed because I had big useless breasts with no milk even after a few days it still did not come in. So they were formula fed and now at ages 5 and 3 they are the tallest children in their classes at school. Being big and tall runs in or family though. Everyone is very tall on my husbands side, even the women are between 5'10 ad 6 feet tall. It sounds like your doctor is absolutely right. You have a beautiful, perfectly fine baby boy. He doesn't have a choice but to be big. Just love him and cuddle him alot, this age goes by quickly. (His weight is because he is a breastfed baby) I cannot tell you how many chunky babies I have seen and then find out they are breastfed. Breast milk really plumps them up.

Hi Holly G (same name as my daughter) - my first baby was 9lb 10oz and was normal length. He gained a pound every week for many months, and my husband eventually developed tendonitis of his elbow from carrying him! He ate normally - no solids until he was 7 months - and walked at 9 and 1/2 months. I look at baby pictures of him and wonder how he could have been such a little bubble! He was always in clothes that were supposed to be for children much older than him. His Dad is 5' 4 and 1/2" and I'm 5' 5". Our son is now six foot, very strong and muscular. My grandfather was 6' 4" so maybe that accounts for his height.

Your husband is very tall, so that will account for part of your son's size. He is no doubt a healthy, happy active little one who's body is doing all the right things. You will notice that as he begins to walk and run around a lot, that he will slim down considerably. My granddaughter is 3 and her paediatrician says she will go close to 6' when she's an adult - her Daddy is very tall like your husband - so just kick back and enjoy your boy.

One thing I would advise though is that if he is taking only the occasional solids at ten months, these need to be increased as his iron stores will be getting low and he needs iron rich foods (NOT AN IRON SUPPLEMENT!) to replenish his stores. Now would be a good time to begin offering the solids first and breast feeding him after that, so that you can tip the balance in his favour. Iron deficiency anaemia is not good in little ones, and if it is severe can mean hospitalisation and iron injections - not to be dramatic, but I've nursed little ones in that situation.

Enjoy being the mother of your precious son! :)

I was a pre-mature baby, I barely weighed 6 pounds.

As I grew, I wouldn't stop eating.. I was constantly hungry and I got huge. But once I started crawling/running/walking it all kinda came off and I was underweight by the time I was 5 years old.

My friends child was like that. He is now 5 and in a size 6, even though he was in 3-4T while he was a baby.
It levelled out.

My daughter slept in her very own infant mattress at 17 months previous. She stayed in her mattress and didnt come out of it the entire night and by using nap situations besides inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, we switched her lower back via fact after 4 days of this she threw a in fantastic condition out of no the place one night and then we went lower back to the crib. i've got self belief this grew to become into the terrific theory via fact she hasn't tried to circulate slowly out of her crib yet or something so i grew to become into advised by skill of different mom and dad to no longer hassle with it until eventually she shows indications that she might start up mountain climbing out sometime quickly. i'm watching for yet another one now and that i'm happy I even have not mattress knowledgeable her yet extraordinarily via fact she ultimately hit that damaging 2 and that i could no longer think of mattress coaching a baby and looking out after a newborn. each and every baby grows at there very own p.c.. i might say that for the period of the adventure that your baby hasnt shown indications of crawling out of the crib yet then I wouldnt hassle approximately shifting them to a baby mattress. something that me and my husband have executed for the reason that my daughter grew to become right into a newborn isn't positioned a night gentle in her room via fact her room is the place all her toys are and everyhting then she could be greater possibly to circulate slowly out of her crib. so a techniques this has been rather helpful. We only moved and the place we moved the blinds dont conceal the gentle in her room ok so we had to hold a blnket over her window so she might sleep. Now out of habbit she wont circulate to sleep or stay asleep without it being pitch black.

My son was just over 10 pounds at birth (ouch!). He wound up being 6'8". I have no idea why; no one in the family is that tall.
