With my limited knowledge of history, I cannot determine whom is the greatest inventor of all time, but the greatest one I can think of is Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. It was his invention - around the late 1480's, i think- that enabled information and ideas to be printed and circulated at an exponentially higher rate than previously known. His invention is one of the main pillars that western civilization as we know it rests upon this day.

Is there really only one great one? I'd say there are many! Alexander Graham Bell, Edison, Marconi, Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, the woman who invented White-Out! The steam engine, the airplane, space travel....they're all great!

Lenardo De Vinci by far. His ideas were so out of the world during his time. Even to this day, we still use his inventions.

That would be Edison. You wouldn't be on your internet if not for him. Of course, we know he came after Franklin.
