5x -2(6-5x)=18
5x-12+10x=18

Factor the (6-5x)...you multiply by -2. Remember, negative times a negative is a positive.

5x-12+10x=18

Add 12 to both sides to remove the -12. Also add the 5x and 10x.

15x=30

Now, divide both sides by 15, to remove the 15 from the x

x=30/15 so x=2

(5x-2)(6-5x)=18

5x (6-5x)=18
=30x-25x=18
+
-2(6-5x)=18
-12+10x=18

therefore
30x-25x-12+10x=18
=15x-12=18

Going further to solve:
15x-12=18
add the 12 to the other side of the equals sign
15x=30
divide both sides by 15

therefore x=2
