Depends on the Muslim.

I would prefer to elect an atheist, or someone who does not let their religion dictate how they run the country.

Like other religions Muslims (apologies if I improperly conjugated that) have a core set of beliefs which based on the teachings of their holy book. This is no different than Christianity, In fact they share many of the same prophets and beliefs with Christianity. Likely this is because it is one of the many religions, (including paganism) Christians 'borrowed' from in the formation of there own religion.

At any rate Islam,Jew, Hindu, Taoist Pagan or any other religion really should not matter. What we need is someone, anyone who has the best interest of the nation and ALL it's people in mind rather than the agenda of a religion.

Disclaimer : I admit that what little I do know about Islam and several other religions did not come from TV news, ergo I am no expert

Good grief! Look at all the bigots come out at a politically charged question.

Quite frankly, I think there have been too many supposed Christians in office, and the slate needs to be wiped clean and remolded with a full spectrum of people (all colors, all religions, both genders, young and old...etc...) or filled with people with no religious background whatsoever.

As for not knowing where their loyalties lie, we'd know exactly where their loyalties lie. The same place everyone else's lie. Themselves.

Frankly, I would vote for a Muslim if I had a chance. However, they would have to meet specific criteria:

A) A clear, concise political agenda.
B) An anti-war stance, except in the case of retaliation DIRECTLY against an agency or country whom attacked this one. None of this bombing the wrong country, and then invading another wrong country crap.
C) A legitimate background in politics with a clear reason to be the President.

But then again...these are the criteria anyone would have to meet.

Well.... remember that everything always seems loyal, sincere, perfect and intelligent AT the beginning. Everything looks perfect at the beginning. After he got elected... he would remove his mask and show the 'real' beast inside him..... as everybody did before.
I think Hillary C would be not that bad even she is not the perfect one but considerably appropriate for that position.... I simply don't understand why people are so shallow and narrow and not able to see the real things beyond the border, beneath the surface. Why people are so superficial, only get impressed and amazed by someone's charm, loyalty, sincerity and intelligence only without looking what's behind 'his' curtain. Who is he? He just popped up to the surface in a sudden movement without ever being heard or known well before. AND suprisingly most Americans will vote for him. This phenomena is truly amazing. Americans will vote for something that are new and charming even they really don't know anything about him. They will vote blindly for him without knowing the beast within.
Always like this.... Also already happened many times in Bush periods. When Americans would be able to see things in a profound and thoughtful way? Americans always not being able to see things beneath the surface. I could do the same, all I have to do to win Americans' sympathy is just simply be nice, loyal, sincere and kind to everybody then you'll be accepted no matter what is inside my heart if I plan to shatter the reputation of USA worse after I got elected. :)

Obama to be honest I have to say that he seems so phony and fake.... He even has such a huge huge lack of experiences in politics. His loyalty, sincerity, and intelligence seem so superficial and made up only for making him win the election. Not true his inner loyalty, sincerity, and intelligence shine out from him. But he made it up like a wolf in a sheep clothing. Be aware of this tricky mischievous way to get something. Do not get impressed and amazed by someone's loyalty, sincerity, perfection and intelligence in the beginning especially when he wants to achieve something. Of course he shows all his bests in the beginning to win his ambitions. But after, would he stay and remain the same kind, loyal, sincere and intelligent as he promotes himself by now? I doubt it.... Be very careful.

My rules are the same as the Constitution. There is no religious litmus test to get my vote.

Unless a candidate openly proclaims intent to use the Office to further a religious agenda, then they can get lost, no matter what religion they are!

I think the RACE shouldn't matter.
What should is can they run this country and keep it away from poverty and crime. Help the people and NOT get into war for really no reason....
You can't judge one monkey from a dozen. Most people are just afraid they can't trust them...well can you TRUST BUSH? Probably more likely....because of his race but that does not mean all Christians all trustworthy? Think about it more openly, not racially.

Not at this point in history. Maybe in the past, maybe in the future but not now. We could never be sure where their true loyalties lie.
