Dates were always the hardest for me...Try studying over time. Don't wait until the last minute. You wouldn't believe how much more effective it is. Then the night before, go over everything as a refresher. You may even want to go over everything the morning of. This seems to help me. Don't study dates for hours at a time. After a while, everything will start to jumble, and you will find you can't remember any of them. Study a few here and a few there. I find repetition is a pretty effective way. Try associating the date with a date that's important to you maybe. i.e. If you know someone who has a birthday on the same day, etc. and associate them with the event somehow. It's quite hard to use specific methods for dates. Repitition is probably the most effective way. Best of luck to you!

I understand dates are hard, but sometimes learning about what happened in that particular year and why this event came into effect around that time helps. Internalize, don't memorize. Start reading in chunks on a daily basis instead of cramming the night before...Flash cards also help.

When having to memorize - pick out the key words. Dates are difficult, but try to associate the numbers with a familiar person or place. Then pick out the key words or phrases in the text you can associate with that person. You will have to rely on short term memory. Try writing your notes as writing creates an imprint on your mind.

I listen to the same song over and over again while I am studying and then I sing the words while I take the test, it helps the information come back to me...make sure its not a song that is really disctracting or it will be counterproductive.

Read it once or twice before you go to sleep at night. Tell yourself to dream about it before you sleep. Your brain is better able to process info if its not mixed up with other data collected during the day.
You know how people say they will "sleep" on it....if they have a problem to solve....THAT is why. The mind will process and come up with scenarios and ideas if its EITHER the last thing you think of OR extremely important to you.

Notes. Definitely note cards. Print the term or idea on the front and then an answer to it on the back and just go over them and over them and over them. It helps. I promise. It's how I study for my univeristy finals every semester.

Start with and outline and then focus on what is most important in that outline. That always worked well for me when I was in college. Also check the notes from your classes to find what your proff. focused on so that you'll be on target.
