Strong emotions like love, fear, excitement, etc. tend to release adreneline or other chemicals that causes a physical reaction. You can feel the heart beat faster, the lungs change their breathing pattern, and even your stomach region gets in on the action. There is also the fact that we learn this association as small children, and the constant reinforcement makes the connection stronger.
