Hi everyone,

I would like to travel to Europe. How much do you think it would cost to go for 2 - 3 months? I would stay in hostel's. I have seen a few people say around $100/day. Is this a realistic average?

Thank you!

I've been taking most of my vacations in Europe for the past 11 years. There is always something new to explore and experience.

- First, the best budget travel guide is Let's Go Europe. It is taylored to young travelers.
Figure this in your budget:
- Youth Hostel: $30/Night
- Food: $35/Day
To save money, avoid restaurants for b'fast and lunch. Use bakeries, cafes, small grocery stores.
Dinner you can do cheap restaurants. For example, in Spain I can go to a Tapas bar for dinner at $12 - $15 with beer.
- Seeing the sites (museums, attractions) $8 each attraction.
- Local Transportation: $6/Day. Many cities have day or multi day passes.

---- So that's about $80/Day

Now add in travel overhead:
- Train Travel between cities: figure $400 - $500. Many options are offered by Eurail. Eurail is only available outside of Europe.
See www.eurail.com OR Ricksteves.com can help you with the best choice and sell you the proper ticket.
- Airfare from US to Europe - Low season: $500 R/T High Season $1500. R/T (Depends on origin city of course)

Wherever you go, look for discounts. For example. Many cities will sell a tourist discount card that provide museum discounts and unlimited local transportation. A good guide book should point out these opportunities.

Good Luck and have a great time!

About 500 to get there depending on where you're from. Then a hostel can range anywhre between 30 bucks a night to 80 bucks a night. Pretty cheap in most cases. The problem with hotstles is that you have to watch your stuff. If you go for the cheaper rooms they are set up dorm style with multiple people to a room and shared bathrooms. So you really have to watch your crap

If you factor in food every day which you can find for about 40 bucks a day.. then yeah. $100/ day is pretty average.

i went to Europe and traveled around for three weeks on 4,000 and that allowed me to stay in five star hotels, transportation around europe, eat pretty richly, and still have money for museums and gifts for home. It can be done very cheaply.

I'd reccommend buying a Frommers Guide before heading over there. They do have some very good bits of advice. Go to your local Barnes and Noble, or Borders, or whatever your major bookseller is, and check out as many travel books as possible. There's a reason why they're written.

If you are a student it will cost you a lot less than 800 to get there.
How much is it going to cost you to stay - it depends where you want to go. I would advise to stay at hotels that are not exactly "downtown" or in the "cool" area because it is just more expensive and you can always use public transportation or drive downtown. There are a lot of smaller countries in Europe that are a pretty sight and are cheaper. Or when you are in a bigger country, you don't have to stay at the capital :)

about 800 to get there, then a motel a day would be about 70 to 100 a day then food and bus fare and or train, i would think it would be more like 150 a day
