Windows XP has this built in, but it's quite hard to use. You may have heard of GoToMyPC, which is a remote control solution. This costs money though. I use LogMeIn (www.logmein.com). It is free and as long as your computer with it is turned on and has internet access, you can go online from, say, your work computer and literally control it like you were sitting in front of it.

Yes, you can use Remote Desktop. What the host needs to do is set a password for their account and gives you their IP address and User Name; insert these into the proper fields in the remote desktop window and connect. However, the other person will log off while you’re controlling their computer, making it impossible for them too see what you’re doing. Also if they have a firewall installed, they'll need to add your IP address in the "trusted computers" zone.

There is a difference between Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance. If you go to Help and Support and type Remote Assistance, it will give you links.
Very easy,.... you can do it using yahoo mail. Type in the person's e-mail, and invite him to access your computer. HE will see a box requiring a password (call him and give him the password you select for this incident only). The instructions are really automatic and very simple. You must be at your computer to ACCEPT him accessing it. It really is very easy.

This type of connection is used when you are having a technical problem that your help line operator cannot seem to talk you through it, so they ask for permission to take over yor computer to try and assist you or personally try to correct whatever technical issue you may be having. I had to do this just the last night when my daughters computer lost its connection and I contacted Verizons tech support and they took over and fixed the problem we were having. remote server usage - good idea.

There is no software to install to do this. On your computer you have to enable your computer to be shared via remote desktop. Then you send an invite to the person you want to help you.
I hope this helps you.

You go to HELP on your toolbar. Click on remote network, it should tell you. Basically, you invite someone to come into your computer. They see every thing you see. It really works, though. Talk to a friend and do a trial run. It's really simple. Good Luck!

You can use the free utility UltraVNC. This has to be configured on the machine you want to take over and on the machine you want to do the controlling from. You also need a connection between machines (usually a VPN connection)
