That is a great question. And some neat answers. Here's my take. The American government is akin to highway lines, because it has a destination and has to go ever so far to reach it's fine goals with blanks to be filled in by legislative and constitutional means between each determined line.

The government goes on and on and on like the lines on the highway and yet end up nowhere in particular. Like the lines on the highways, there is no end in sight.

our government is like the highway lines because the lines do cross over other lines, they sometimes accidents happen and we have no power & we're left in the dark, yet wait awhile and the power comes back on and we are filled with the power of the light once again....OH LUCKY US !

Highway lines are built so that every so often they have to go straight to allow planes to land in case of emergencies.
Knowing that crooked most of the time but have to go straight when it has to.
