I just started taking vocal lesson’s and I’ve been practicing drills periodically throughout the day. Im wondering how long it took you (Im expecting a somewhat experienced vocalist to answer this) to develop a legitimately good singing voice. Trust me Im not going to give up taking vocals no matter what responses I get. I asked a similar question when I started taking guitar lessons (a year ago) and Im still taking them. I just want to know how much effort I need to put into vocals. I don’t want to be embarrassed after taking four years of vocals and then start singing and people giving me negative insults. I feel like I never have a chance when I watch American Idol (Im never going on that show anyway) and the people say they have been taking vocals their wholes lives and then, well you know...

From my experience, it takes about 2 years to develop a strong singing voice. After that you can work on adding trills and other musical accents to to your singing.

Well I'm a vocal trainer and believe me I Know what you're going through. I'd say it would take you up to four years or more. I it depends on what age you start your lessons. If you are a guy and you start before you've gone through puberty, then it will take you up to six years. But you can't expect yourself to sound perfect of like R&B artists. Most of them only sound good on recording, but they sound terrible live. Don't worry you'll get there.

It depends (Dont you just hate that answer) To clarify.. It just really depends on every person based on your level of determination, drive, passion, want, practice. Remember that you got to try and don't rely on the vocal coach; they are just there to help you; you gotta do the rest of the work :)!
