I recently got married, and I need to go to the gyno to get an exam in order to get on birth control. I'm nervous because I've never been before. Will the doctor think its strange that I haven't been before, even though I'm 23 years old? Has anyone else waited this long for their first exam?

I do think it is weird. I went to the doc for an exam when I first started menstruating and that was around fifth grade so many years ago.
As for the doctor, I don't know if they'll think its strange or not. they shouldn't judge anyway but they might ask WHY you haven't been there for an exam until then.

It isn't unusual, I'm sure they see a lot of older women who have never been to the gyno. I think it's okay, as long as you have never had any problems :) I went for the first time when I was 15 because I was being put on birth control. But it's normal that you haven't gone yet. They just like you to go early like when you're 16 to make sure you have no problems and make sure everything is okay down there. :)

It's not unusual, most people don't see a doctor until there is a problem. However you should go soon. Once you are sexually active you should be seeing a gynecologist, you need to have yearly pap smear to screen for cervical cancer. The doctor won't judge you. It will be OK..

I was 29 the first time I went. My younger sis had a cancer scare that prompted me to get checked out. Thankfully, I was fine - nervous, but fine. They won't think it's strange. A lot of people don't get checked out at all unless something's bothering them.

It is a little unusual that you haven't gone to the OBGYN before, but its not uncommon, i knew a girl who refused to go. Just let your doctor know that it's your first time, and they'll try their best to make it comfortable.

doctors wont judge. If you have been sexually active or plan on becoming its good to get checked out. I went when I was 18..due to complications during my period..i was nervous..believe me. It sucks having to go, but its a once a year thing and its done. Good luck and congrats on your marriage.
