Sat right there and cried my eyes out! He promised his wife that he would get on AI and he was not about to back out on that promise. And, he didn't embarrass himself either, he did a pretty darn good job! Here are the lyrics, what a beautiful tribute!
See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sun rise on a tropic isle
Just remember
darling
all the while
You belong to me
See the marketplace in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
But remember when a dream appears
You belong to me
I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
and blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
Watch the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

That was without a doubt the most tear-jerking moment in TV history. I am the type of person that cries very rarely, but When Sherman got up and sang from the bottom of his heart about his grief for his dead wife, it was simply too much for me and the tears started flowing uncontrollably. In comparison, I would say that the only other time I have ever cried watching TV was when I saw "million dollar baby", that movie hit me harder than what I expected. Don't worry, you certainly weren't the only one weeping when Sherman sang on American idol

I was crying, it was so touching what he did. My husband of 20 years has been battling cancer for the last six months, so I am a bit emotional on things of that subject.

Yes that was really touching but the sad thing is that he was probably the most talented on the show tonight.

Yes, I did too. I was glad that they let him on to do that. I am sure it meant so much to him and he had a good voice too. I pray that he will get through this difficult & sad time.

Oh man, it was soo sad. I was on the verge of tears! I think how Ryan said "Well he among others were winners", insinuated that he did get through...? I'm not sure if he got through, they didn't give him a straight up answer.
