What year were the 'Immortal Beloved' letters written?
Thayer's huge biography of Beethoven (1879) totally refuted many of the claims made by Schindler as regards Beethoven's life including the identity of the Immortal Beloved. Thayer realised that Monday, July 6 only fell on the dates 1795, 1801, 1807, 1812 and 1818. However, in an error of judgement he proposed that Beethoven had mistaken the date and that the letter was written to Therese von Brunsvik in 1806. Thayer's Victorian morality made him refuse to believe that Beethoven could either have been chasing a married woman in Guicciardi or (his only other possibility) the 14 year old Therese Malfatti in 1801.
- Who was Beethoven's real 'Immortal Beloved'?
Therese von Brunsvik was finally ruled out as the Immortal Beloved in 1909 when it was established that Beethoven was in Vienna and she in Transylvania in 1806. Her own diaries showed that she believed her sister Josephine to have been the Immortal Beloved! and now they are saying it was Antonie von Birkenstock who was born in Vienna on May 28, 1780 and was thus 10 years younger than Beethoven.

1812
While there are no certainties regarding the subject, there are a number of preferred candidates for the Immortal Beloved title. These are Giulieta Guicciardi, Thereza von Brunswick, Amalia Seebald and Antonie Brentano. All of these women are known to have been the object of Beethoven’s affection at one time or another. However, recent research has lead to the conclusion that the immortal beloved is almost certaintly the last of the candidates presented above, Antonie Brentano.
The letters were found in his effects after his death.

They were written in 1802-1803
And the 'Beloved' is believed to have been possibly Countess Giuletta Guicciardi or Therese von Brunsvik. But general thought is that it was actually (as far as we know now) Antonie Brentano.
