I have an older set of frames, but I just got new updated prescription lenses put in a few months ago. The finish on the metal is starting to wear away, and sometimes the bottom of the frames touch my cheeks and leave green marks on them! *lol*

I really don't want to have to shell out for another set of frames. I also bought a new set of glasses at the time I got these lenses updated. I like the older pair better, so don't want to be committed to only the other new set.

I've asked a few eyeglass places and either they don't really have an answer whether it's possible to refinish them, or I've been told that it used to be done fairly commonly, but now they don't know anyone who does it any more. One more example of our disposable society, I guess! Or a way to force us to pay for new frames each time.

Anyway, I'm wondering if there's a way I can do it on my own so that the exposed metal no longer leaves marks on my cheeks.

Thanks!!

Linda

I bet some enamel paint will do the trick...maybe someone who paints model cars and model airplanes will be able to do the work, or at least recommend the type of paint to use. Also, look into car touch-up paint...

Kudos to you for re-using rather than just tossing and buying new!!

If the "gunk" is fairly decrease than the rim of the physique, then it relies upon on how reachable you're. The lenses ought to be faraway from the physique and the two the physique groove and the fringe of the lens ought to be wiped sparkling. in the adventure that your physique is plastic or one which makes use of a small nylon cord to guard the lens, then enable the placement the place you won your glasses do the removing and cleansing. quite some cunning do-it-yourselfers look to have the skill get rid of and reinsert lenses that are fastened in steel frames. If, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, you're in any respect hesitant, then enable the expert with the splendid kit do it. once you're only speaking correct to the seen, exterior "gunk" then enable them to soak in dish detergent and gently brush the fabric with a comfortable-bristled tooth brush. sidestep brushing the front or lower back floor of the lens. in case you ought to apply a toothpick, pin or dental gadget, then you definately've waited lots too long to bathe your glasses. Rome wasn't geared up in an afternoon, and "gunk" does no longer enhance in one day together as your glasses sit down on the fabric cabinet or bedside table.
