i dont understand why american tax dollars are spent on fightng aids-giving drugs away to people in othe countries, when we have people in our own country who dont have the money to buy medication they need to live.. I dont understand. We should take care of our own, before others. its not like that money isnt needed here at home.

What you're saying is true, but the wealthier countries are slowly becoming integrated into the poorer countries. What this means is that as poorer people move to the USA, Japan, Australia, and Europe, so do their diseases. The same goes for the people of wealthier countries who go to poorer countries and spread their diseases to the natives, mainly through sex.... Anyway what I'm trying to say is: Today's world is a global market society, because we can travel around the world within several hours to a day, people now interact more. Which means diseases, knowledge, and technology spread quicker. SARS, HIV/AIDS, and Bird Flu are only a few great examples. So we can no longer stop and watch as diseases spread across the world, because if we do, it we slowly but surely come to the USA by traveling people.

It's not an either/or situation. The people who are donating money to fight AIDS in Africa are doing so because that is the need they feel most moved to deal with. There are other people who are helping people in our country. But the truth is that the poorest person in our country has so much more than the poor people in Africa (clean water, for example! county hospitals for emergencies) that some people believe the poor people in Africa are the neediest, and that poverty is not merely a national but a worldwide crisis.
