Hey, congrats! I'm from Frederick, but I live in Minnesota now. Cold here as it is there, I'm sorry to say! Anyway, when we lived there we had a GREAT general practice doctor named Amy Jones. She's on TJ Drive and she's awesome. You might want to call their office or call your regular doctor's office for a recommendation. If you have any pregnant (or recently gave birth) friends, I'd ask them too. I found my OB that way. Good luck and I hope your wife enjoys her pregnancy.

Congratulations. Word of mouth is the best source ever. An OBGYN can look great on paper or credentials but if they have the bedside manner of a dead rat than it is fruitless. Friends, family and even a family doctor may be able to give you pointers in the right direction but if like myself and you are not familiar with a location we had just moved from Surprise Arizona to Windermer Florida when I was 3 months and did not know anyone. I went to the hospital websites and put in for their doctor referals. A list came up for each hospital and it gave me a picture, their credentials, their mission statements and how their particular practice was run. The ones I liked I printed out their information and then compared this info and narrowed it down to a handful of them and then called and spoke with the office itself, the nurses, the doctor and the front desk staff. If you don't get a good feel and a welcome feel from the whole office you will not be happy and since I am very high risk while pregnant I have to spend alot of time with this person so I want to like and fell comfy with them as well as know that the person I pick was also for the most part going to be the one to deliver the baby. I hope some of this helps and congrats again.

Go to the Maternity Center in Rockville, MD. It is a group of midwives, they have OBs they can call in if there is a need. Your wife can deliver at the Maternity Center or at Shady Grove Hospital, the midwives have full medical privileges. I am posting a link to their website. They are really much better than doctors, because they are more involved in the pregnancy and the birth. They are VERY available and answer questions over the phone in good time. Because they are so involved, they usually catch any problems pretty early, before they get serious.
If you really want a doctor who is closer, try doing a search on your health insurance website. Here is the link to the provider locater part of the carefirst website.

Ask other parents who they used and would they use them again? If you know any nurses that work in obstetrics or labor and delivery ask them who they would go to if they were having a baby. Don't ask the nurses who's good or bad, they won't tell you that. Find out who teaches childbirth classes in your area and ask them who they like and why and ask if they can provide names of new parents from their classes that you can talk to.
