Guinea Pigs live for about 7 years. If it started to loose its hair before it died, this may have been a sign of some disease. They always need water & food. If you don't clean its cage often and could have died from a type of amonua it caught from not haveing a clean cage.

That's sad! Rodents die very quick if they catch a bad cold. If you put another pet in the same cage, be sure to bleach and rinse all the surfaces. The germs may kill the next pet if you don't.

Honestly, there's no way to tell what your guinea pig died of. It could have been anything from an upper respiratory infection to a tumor.

I'm VERY sorry for your lose, I love piggies and have six of my own. My first girl (Cupcake) passed away this past summer. We weren't sure what the cause was so we took her to the vet and they did an autopsy.
