Vast reserves of oil in Alaska, and in the gulf. But, some think that their ocean view or "environmental impact" is more important than their way of life.

The easiest way to reduce our dependency on imported oil is to increase our supply. With more supply, the price will go down. That is basic economics. But anytime this idea is proposed, it is shot down because "drilling for oil will destroy our environment." As long as this group keeps blocking efforts to find new oil, you are going to have $2-plus a gallon gas. They say have the USA cut consumption. Hey that's a good statement. But the two biggest developing nations, China and India, are going to increase their demand for oil during the next century--shrinking the oil supply even further. Unless more oil is found, the pressure on the price to increase will continue. And it would be a shame to make people suffer by paying out more and more for gas when we had the ability to produce our own oil, but could not because of the environmental obsticals.

By doing the following:
1) Use more clean coal technology and biofuel (fuel from waste products like used vegetable oil, motor oil, switchgrass, and etc)
2) Americans need to conserve more energy (take public transportation, lower the thermostats, and etc.)
3) Build more nuclear plants

There are some other things, but the main three are listed here.

I haven't seen any good solutions from the White House yet, and I'm sick at heart about the idea of expanding our domestic drilling, considering all the damage that's done already.

Somehow, SOMEHOW, we have to realize that we're part of a larger world and that what we do has bigger consequences than individual ones. I know that we have the *right* to drive big gas-guzzling trucks if we can afford to, but wouldn't it be nice if it became more fashionable to drive energy efficient vehicles?

Biodiesel.

It works just the same as regular diesel fuel, but is made from corn and other vegetable products! Plus, hydrogen power plants would be a great source of electricity. They only need water and they have no pollutants!
