Close, friends, but no cigar. A square foot is a measure of area and could be the area of a round pizza. Most common geometric shapes have a simple formula to calculate their area. If you measure their lengths in feet, then the answer will come out in square feet, even for circles or triangles. If you like your pizza measured in inches, measure the area in square inches and divide by 144 to get square feet.

A square foot is simply a foot squared. It is 144 square inches. It is a unit of area, and is therefore calculated by multiplying the length and width of a surface, then converting it to the appropriate units.

The Square Foot is a rare quadruped which often hangs out with the more common Snipe. If you have a bag and a flashlight, we can go hunt one down.

It can by found by following its call, which, if it is of the rectangular persuasion, sounds like this: "Length times width! Length times width!"
The circular ones, being rather stupid, go "Pie are square! Pie are square!" There are others, but they are beyond the scope of this answer.
