Once you retire, you can do anything you like.

You don't have to be old to retire.

You retire when you've made the money you want, otherwise you can keep working.

I fly to New York, visit museums, talk to people from all over the world, go to the top of the Rock and the Empire State building and anything else that fits my fancy. My brother often flies in from England with some of his friends and we do the city up together. Then we take the bus to Jersey and stay with my sister and her hubby and kids. At home, I spend hours with my friends discussing literature, philosophy, history, current events, politics ad infinity. I also spend a great deal of time reading and researching on the Internet. Basically, I work full time at doing the things I did part time while I was working. I stay up till 4AM and rise and shine at the crack of noon. Unless your independently wealthy, you pinch the pennies and work a part time job a few months a year. I also moved from an urban area to a rural one. I can go out for a walk at 2AM and look at the stars.. Retirement is exactly what you make of it. You will find that when you get old, you are the same person you are when you were young. You just have more life experience and the equipment needs a bit more maintenance. And it pays to have some young friends so that you don't become an old duffer. And it's always a good idea to put your feet up on the coffee table and open a beer or a bottle of good vino! Your welcome!

I retired at a young 59 years of age. You know 60, the new 40!? I read the newspaper and take care of two grandchildren 1 or 2 days a week. But I also started taking piano lessons and bought a piano, something I've wanted to do all my life. My husband (also retired) enjoys hearing even the repetitive plunking, and he has renewed his interest in guitar because of it. I envision us making music together and improving as we age!

We also plan and take trips--from 3-day to 3-week trips. We've learned a few new card games that we play with neighbors. The social interaction and need to be on our toes should help keep our memories sharp.

We try to entertain (i.e., feed) the adult children regularly, and enjoy getting the family together for any occasion or non-occasion.

My husband maintains his keen interest in most sports and also plays golf 2-3 days a week. I walk regularly to keep fit.

We try to stay in touch with our friends and go to breakfast, lunch or a movie with close friends once in a while. We visit as often as possible those who have moved out of the area.

I've considered volunteerng once or twice a month to take others to doctors' appointments or chemotherapy appointments.

I like to read, and have decided the public library is a better source of books than the bookstores (we are, after all, on a limited income). I read the Bible daily.

There you have it! We keep active, and who knows, I might even pursue a second degree if things get boring!

Both my grandparents have been retired for 20+ years and both are still very healthy and full of life. They like to go to the mountains and gamble, my grandma loves spending my granddaddy's money LOL

My granddaddy has found alot of things to occupy his time, since he's past military, he's very set in his ways and likes to keep things organized so he keeps up with current events and every single piece of paperwork any of us receieved he always has everything so neat and filed away so when we need it, he always has it and knows right where it is.

They take the whole family out to eat every Friday and go shopping a bunch.

They are just great, the TV kind of grandparents LOL

My parents traveled quite a bit, after retirement. And dad did a *lot* of charity work, driving the bus for the senior center and visiting hospitals to sing to the patients.
