Is there actually a restaurant in the LA area that give you hammers and you crack open crabs on this wooden table ? I know a place on the east coast like that. But I saw it in a movie and the characters were supposed to be in LA. Does it exist in SoCal or was it made up?

There's a place in Redondo Beach called Captian Kidds which is really good. Everything is fresh. You pick your catch of the day, and you tell them how to cook it! They have crabs, lobster, fish, ect.. They boil the crab for you in a bag and give you hammers to break them. You should try it one of these days!

Try Redondo Beach King Harbor. Lots of seafood.

You know... It might be the CRAB COOKER in Newport Beach. Sometimes movies can be deceiving... I have heard that it is very laid back and you crack and smash the crabs yourself. Check it out. Oh yea, the food is supposed to be great.

I have heard of La Scala in Santa Monica but don't know if it a laid back atmosphere or not, try searching. In WA we have many or you can buy them off the boats, take them home and go at it. Good luck

Possibly Ports-o-call in San Pedro. I grew up in Maryland, we used to grab bushels off a roach coach, take them home, spread the newspaper on the picnic table and go nuts.

Man, you making me hungry. If you find out, let me know.
