I see a lot of answers from people stating "your are guaranteed a lawyer paid for by the state..." concerning legal and criminal matters. Do people out there realize that you must qualify as indigent to have an attorney provided for your. Basically, if you qualify for various social welfare programs, you are indigent. If you don't qualify for those programs, you are likely not indigent, and they do not have to "provide you with an attorney at no charge."

Where people get this information that everyone is guaranteed an attorney is beyond me.

I am one of those people. I make too much money, but am not considered idigent, and therefore an attorney would not be provided for me. I couldn't afford an attorney if something happened, but that does not matter.

You are correct!!!! I worked for a Sheriff dept. and all these people would come in and say they wanted a court appointed lawyer. We had to fill out forms and most of them did not qualify. You have to be indigent before you can get a lawyer!!!!

if you have a job or any income from a job even if it is part time they will not provide an attorney for you. you either have to be penniless or on SS or welfare or you do not qualify

There are a lot of people that are NOT on welfare, that cannot afford to hire a private lawyer. If they don't have the money, even if they hav a job, they HAVE to have access to a lawyer.
