i stored a th400 trans for 4yrs in a dry location will it be ok to use?

It should be fine as long as there is no rust/corrosion on the outside casing. I would personally recommend that you change the fluid and filter before use though.

should be , as said above , fluid and filter, i would change the seal (s?) as well they are probably dry and easier to do now
