I am doing a project on roll of thunder hear my cry and i need to make a cast for the book. if you have read the book i need someone who could play Big Ma.

i think Oprah is just over 50, Patti LaBell, or Dihanne Carroll. I think I spelled her name right.

I haven't read the book, but I think Tonye Patano would be excellent playing anyone named "Big Ma." If you want to see some clips of her in action, I suggest browsing the Weeds site on www.sho.com. I can't find the year she was born, so I don't know if she's over 50 or not. Perhaps you could explain to whoever assigned the project that a movie like the one you're casting would be able to afford a makeup artist who could add wrinkles and age spots.
Angela Bassett was born in 1958, so she almost qualifies. And then there's Oprah Winfrey, although I don't think she's done any major roles since Beloved.
