Who originaly sang " do i make you proud"?

Im not sure if thats the corrects title of the song but its the one that taylor hicks sang on american idol when he won..I need to know the original singer.

I'm pretty sure it was written for American Idol, although I could be wrong. I've also heard rumors that it was written for Elliott Yamin, but when he got voted off, Taylor took the song because he didn't like the one they wrote for him. Hope this helps a little :)
