Being an El Nino year, it's hard to tell.

The groundhog thing is mostly a myth but if you think hard about it there's one way to interpret it. A shadow implies a sunny day. Sunny weather in early February (or anytime) indicates dry air. If it's moist and cloudy, it means warm moist air from lower latitudes is beginning to invade, which MAY indicate spring is approaching soon. But it could change either way two days later so don't take it seriously.
