why dont multiplayer games from any website work on my computer?

anywebsite i go to.. pool preferably.. doesnt open for multiplayer games.. javascript correct, pop up off.. example:
on yahoo when the like says click here to continue that brings you to the room the internet shuts completely down. On other pool multiplayer sites when a game starts it does the same exact thing.. help!?

Windows firewall settings? Personal firewall settings? Missing I.E. or FireFox plugins?
