I have a VERY tight budget, and there are 2 of us (my boyfriend and I) that share this room. We have a lack of organizational skills, and we are not very motivated in the laundry aspect. Once clothes get washed, they are thrown on the floor.. clean pile vs. dirty pile. Y'know that kind of thing.

As well, we do not have a suitable dresser, we are waiting for a friend to deliver a dresser. Besides that, what can I do to organize my room? To keep it clean? We don't have a lot of time to clean, and anything we can do to keep it clean once its clean is helpful.

Lastly, just a quick list of the basic stuff in our room:
bed, desk, shelf, small dresser, closet

Links to any websites with cheap organizational items in Canada are appreciated as well, but not required =low budget

Well I am the same way with my clothes. I just bought a closet organizer from home depot. It was a great investment! I now have 2 rows of space to hang my clothes and my husband has his own row. I also got shelving space out of it that I badley needed for some of my clothes. I bought mine for $40 but they had a cheaper brand for $25. I must say though that the biggest improvement of all was taking everything out of my closet and going through it. I got rid of 5 garbage bags of clothes that I gave to a church that runs a thrift store. I knew I needed to do it and the closet organizer gave me the push I needed. I was also easy to install. I agree with the other poster about the dollar store they usually have good storege stuff. I put my piles in laundry baskets and shove under the bed or now i can put them on the floor of my closet now that it is clean. If your bed is to close to the ground you can lift it off the ground with a couple of cinder blocks then put a bed skirt on your bed.

Well, let's see...you could buy a few plastic laundry baskets at your local dollar store. You should be able to find them for a dollar or two apiece. Buy different colors - say green for dirty clothes and white for clean things. Keep your clean clothing folded neatly in the baskets until you get your dresser. You could stack the laundry baskets in the closet, or even in a corner of your room. It would be better than piles of clothing - clean and dirty- everywhere, wouldn't it?

You could buy some under-the-bed plastic storage boxes for socks and underwear, tee shirts and pj's. If your budget doesn't stretch for this purchase, look for some shallow cardboard boxes - give aways - that you could push up under the bed. Label the ends of the boxes with a marker pen so you can tell the contents at a glance.

Check garage sales and thrift stores for storage bins and containers you could use to help organize your belongings. Baskets could hold odds and ends, or you could even cover shoe boxes with gift wrap paper or contac paper to hold "junk" and keep clutter to a minimum.

As far as keeping your room clean, the best advice I can give you is to keep it neat and picked up. Keep everything put away.
Dust your furniture on a regular basis, and vacuum, sweep or damp mop your floor regularly. In between, clean what you see. Wipe up fingerprints, dirt, crumbs, clean up spills, etc. when you see them. In other words, spot clean between regular dustings and vacuumings.
