In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, why was it a quest of sir gawain rather than a fall?

i have some ideas, but i need your imput.

It's a quest because, despite his human failings, he showed great courage. He had to search very hard to find the Green Chapel, despite that his survival instinct must have been telling him to turn Gringolet around and ride in the other direction. And he saw out his bargain with the Greek Knight, allowing the Knight to have his swing. That means he didn't *just* fall.
