I believe the hymen might probably be some sort of protection for women. Yes, it can be broken by sports such as horse-back riding for instance and of course during sexual intercourse, this is natural and it's nothing to worry about. If you're curious because you plan on becoming sexually active then you might also want to know that it does hurt during sexual intercourse ( in most cases ) and might continue to hurt each time at the beginning of sexual intercourse for a few times. Bleeding can also occur but is also nothing to worry about.

I have a two guesses. The first being that maybe it protects the vagina through childhood as the girls immune system develops. It may also just be one of those things we still have but don't need like your apendix, tail bone, pinky toe etc.

If a woman takes care of herself, the hymen has no effect on her health. It also breaks rather easily so I think it holds more cultural value than health value.

Evolution is a slow process. I doubt that it would be 'bred out' because of how valued it is still around the world. Wether women evolve to not have a hymen is something you and I will not see in our lifetimes. Really, don't worry about it.

Some girls actually don't have a hymen. It's rare, but it does occur.
But yes, it is meant to be broken.
You're question is equivalent to asking why we still grow hair or finger nails.

Yes it is supposed to be broken. I'm not sure why. It can happen from sports, tampons, sex etc. I guess it is just something in a womans body that has never changed. Maybe it's our version of foreskin hehe.

Help with what? It seems to me you need to post this in a more appropriate forum.
